"The Avengers" Film Review

Rating: 5/5

After four years and five movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally hit the goal that they have been setting up the past four years - "The Avengers". By combining the six major superheroes into one film, people understandably had their doubts on how good the film would actually be. However, like usual, Marvel never fails to impress by giving their fans an action-packed and fun superhero film.

The Avengers consist of the six major heroes from the past five films: Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Tony Stark), The Hulk (now played by Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). The reason they are all brought together by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is because Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has came down to Earth from Asgard, and is threatening to destroy earth with his Tesseract, a blue cube of energy that opens a gateway to the universe.

As you can probably tell, this is every comic book fan's dream come true. It's amazing to be able to see all of these heroes finally come together on the big screen to fight a common foe. They all have incredible on-screen presence and charisma, which leads to a fun time watching every single one of them.

However, at the same time, due to that charisma, they all don't get along. There is major bickering between the members of the Avengers, especially between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. Joss Whedon writes and directs these scenes amazingly. Even though they have all of their differences and separate ideologies, they are able to come together as a team, and respect and like each other at the end of the film. These are great character arcs for our heroes, and shows how they are able to accept one another throughout the film; going from bickering into friends and teammates.

The action and the cinematography are absolutely incredible as well, especially the final battle scene. Loki opens up a wormhole to bring in different alien ships to attack earth. The CGI of the spaceships and the wormhole are incredibly created, and look very real and menacing to the viewer. Then, after they make their appearance on our planet, the Avengers go to work, kicking some major butt for the entire third part of the film. The choreographed fighting is a lot of fun to watch, and keeps the viewers on the edge of their seat throughout the entire battle.

There are also many humorous moments throughout, which creates a good balance between the action and good-hearted fun between our characters. Even though there are major threats and fight sequences, our main characters go around cracking jokes, showing that the film is still lots of fun as well as showcasing the superhero action and threatening atmosphere of Loki.

Overall, this is perhaps one of the best superhero team-up movies ever made. They provide the perfect balance of superhero action with comedy, as well as making us appreciate the characters more by giving the characters amazing arcs that turn them into different people at the end of the movie. Marvel really has something on their hands here, and it's really exciting to see what they do with their whole universe in many years to come.
